ABOUT THE FOUNDER

John Uche Ishiekwene is a practising biomedical engineer. He studied Mechanical/Production Engineering at Bachelor’s degree level (Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka) and Operations/Production Management at Master’s degree level (University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos). He is a Project Manager and currently manages some healthcare projects in Delta State, Nigeria. He is a Youth Development Coach with robust experience and skills in the planning and implementation of programmes and projects for the development and empowerment of young people. He is a social entrepreneur and founder/President of Royal Youth Networks. He is a ‘pastorpreneur’ and an integrity champion who has consistently demonstrated leadership in several situations, coupled with a commitment to diligence, innovation, accountability and excellence.

Since 1997 when he had the first opportunity to volunteer as a school visitor under the platform of Scripture Union (S.U) Nigeria, he has not ceased to speak to youths and young people about several subjects ranging from the requirement for academic excellence, to the need for moral uprightness, diligence, self discipline and integrity.

Between 1997 and 2005, he worked concurrently with S.U. and went on to co-found two youth oriented organisations: Positive Peer Club/Positive Peer Foundation (PPC/PPF) and The Prime-Movers Foundation International (TPFI). Both organisations had immense impact on lots of young people across Delta State (Delta State University & environs) and Anambra State  (Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka & environs).

He also had a very life transforming encounter with LEAP Africa in 2005. He benefited from LEAP’s Integrity Institute, Youth Leadership Programme and Facilitator’s Training. Much of the structure and building blocks for RYN were laid from inspiration drawn from LEAP.

During his NYSC programme in 2005/2006 which he served out in Nigeria’s North Eastern state of Yobe, he volunteered as a Peer Educators Trainer (PET) in the Sexual/Reproductive Health Programme jointly implemented by UNICEF and NYSC. He equally set up a chapter of PPC (Positive Peer Club, Yobe chapter) for the school where he trained and groomed over 70 peer educators to serve as change agents to their fellow students as well as their siblings. He also had the privilege of planning and leading a small project in Dapchi, Yobe State through which he trained 10 football coaches on Sexual and Reproductive Health matters, which they had to cascade down to all members of their football teams. The training was initiated by LEAP Africa and funded by NOKIA.

In 2007, he secured funding from his employer (Deux Project Limited) for a week long Training of Trainers (ToT) Workshop which took place in Abraka, Delta State. The Workshop was an initiative of PPC/PPF and 16 young people were trained and equipped with relevant skills, tools and little funds to carry out small community projects which they had developed as part of activities during the workshop. Over 100 other youths and children benefited directly from these efforts.

Over the last 10 years, he has continued to demonstrate through various platforms at home, work and in his community the ideals of true leadership which have been exemplified in his willingness to take responsibility, his pursuit for hard work and excellence, his stand for justice and peace, his personal integrity at work and society, his anti-corruption campaigns, and his sundry efforts in the empowerment of others through training, mentoring and small financial assistance.

John is a husband and a father of four. He believes that success in life is about discovering and fulfilling divine purpose. He is very passionate about building a brighter and better society where everyone, especially young people, can aspire to any heights and become the best that they can be. He hopes to be able to dutifully contribute his part in making the world a better place.
